Recently, according to the latest report from the Daily Mail, Chelsea are planning to sell two center-back players, Rüdiger and Tomori, during the winter transfer window. It is reported that Chelsea plan to receive offers from other teams for center-backs Antonio Rüdiger and Tomori come January 2021, and at the same time, they also intend to cut down their first-team lineup of defenders. Rüdiger and Tomori have played just one Premier League game so far this season, and Lampard now has the best possible setup at center back in the form of Brazilian veteran Thiago Silva and France international Zouma.
Rüdiger wants to leave Chelsea for more opportunities
For Rüdiger, he is hoping that he can fight for a place in Germany's squad for next summer's Europa League, while Tomori is looking forward to kick-starting his first-team career. German boss Löw recently said that Antonio Rüdiger hopes he can leave Chelsea so that he can go to other teams to get more playing opportunities. The media has said that Barcelona are interested in bringing in Rüdiger to fire up their defense because of the long-term injury suffered by Gerard Piqué.
Liverpool interested in Tomori
And with Tomori having spent the 2018-19 season on loan at Derby County, a loan could be a sensible option for the 22-year-old. Having been given a few chances under Lampard's stewardship at the start of last season, he now sits last in the pecking order and Newcastle are reportedly planning to bring him in. If Rüdiger and Tomori both leave in January, then Chelsea will only have Christensen as a replacement center back. It's worth noting that Liverpool are currently short of squad at center back, and with Klopp previously rumored to be interested in bringing in Rüdiger, perhaps the winter transfer window is a good opportunity to do so.
