South Korean international Ki Sung-young, who now plays for Seoul FC, said that South Korean soccer needs systematic planning and development.
Earlier, in the U23 Asian Cup, South Korea's national Olympic team was eliminated by Indonesia's national Olympic team in a blowout, triggering verbal criticism. Ki Sung-young was also asked about his thoughts on the matter in an interview, and he hesitated for a moment before replying, "I don't know what I can say, the players must have been disappointed with the poor result, but I've been through a lot along the way, so I hope the players won't be downcast by it. I missed out on the opportunity to play in the Olympics, but I used that time to improve and work hard to make up for my shortcomings and I think that can be a stepping stone to success at the Olympics."
When asked if Korean soccer is already going downhill, Yoon Seong-young denied, "I don't think Korean soccer is going backwards, Son, Kim Min-jae, Lee Kang-in and also Hwang Hee-chan are shining on the world stage, and many players are playing in Europe."
"Instead of saying that Korean soccer is going backwards, it's a situation where systematic planning and development is now needed and everyone must come together so that Korean soccer can grow in the long run." Ki Seong-young summed it up thus.
