Premier League chiefs have publicly warned that the British government's desire to set up an independent watchdog for soccer carries a huge risk that could lead to England being banned by FIFA, according to The Sun.
According to reports, Premier League CEO David Masters recently sent a letter to the Department for Culture, Media and Sport, saying that if the so-called independent watchdog fails to be truly "independent", it will pose a huge risk to the entire British soccer world, as the move will likely be interpreted by FIFA as interference by the British government in soccer affairs, which would result in England being banned from the World Cup, meaning the Three Lions would not be able to play in the World Cup. This would mean that the Three Lions would not be able to play in the World Cup.
It is understood that the UK Department for Culture, Media and Sport's response to this is that it will still continue to take the work forward and will be in close communication with FIFA and UEFA, among others, to ensure that the independent watchdog operates in a way that meets its original expectations.
