Beijing Guoan hosted Chengdu Rongcheng on May 5, 2024 in the 10th round of the Chinese Super League.
In the first half, Beijing Guoan's offense was mainly concentrated on the right side at the beginning of the game. Guga took the ball and plunged forward many times on this side and finished a threatening shot inside the penalty area in the opening half. In the 11th minute, Guga finished a driving shot from the top of the penalty area and successfully broke through the goal, giving Beijing Guoan a 1-0 lead.
Chengdu then stepped up their efforts to keep an eye on Guga and Zhang Xizhe in an attempt to contain Beijing Guoan's offense. However, the change was not completely successful as Beijing Guoan had another corner kick opportunity near the end of the first half. Fabio capitalized on the confusion and turned and blasted the ball into the back of the net to add another goal for Guoan, making the score 2-0.
In the second half, Chengdu replaced international player Wei Shihao in an attempt to strengthen their attack up front. Their efforts were rewarded in the 51st minute when Romulo launched an attack from the right and managed to equalize the score to 1-2.
To counter Chengdu's counter-attacks, Beijing Guoan made a personnel change in the 60th minute, replacing Yu Dabao and Cao Yongjing to keep up the pressure up front. Despite Chengdu's ferocious attack in the second half, Beijing Guoan withstood the pressure and held on to their 1-goal lead in injury time to win 2-1 against Chengdu Rongcheng.
