The African Cup of Nations (AFC) has started on a cold note, with Nigeria only managing to hold Equatorial Guinea to a draw and the two Group B matches in the early hours of Monday (15) were also disappointing. Last year's runners-up Egypt held Mozambique to a 2-2 draw thanks to a 97th-minute 12-yarder from Mohamed Sana, while Ghana lost 1-2 to Cape Verde.
Egypt's first match against Mozambique, ranked 111 in the world, began with an assist from Mohamed Sana in the opening two minutes, but Mozambique scored two consecutive goals in the 55th and 58th minutes to overtake them. When Mozambique thought it had won its first-ever African Cup of Nations match, Mohamed Sana scored a 12-yarder in the 97th minute, and the match ended in a 2-2 draw. Ghana, the other favorite in the same group, lost 1-2 to Cape Verde in stoppage time. Egypt and Ghana will meet head-to-head in the next round, which will directly affect their prospects of qualifying.
