Manchester United, with new owner Ratcliffe on board, has launched a comprehensive redevelopment plan, and "Lord Ratcliffe" has taken the lead in injecting £250 million (about HK$2.5 billion) into infrastructure, with one of the key plans being the construction of a new training ground. According to the Daily Mail, Manchester United is buying a golf club to build a new training base to replace their existing training base at Cannington.

The Carrington training base was built in 1999, but it has become dilapidated over time, with C Ronaldo publicly complaining that it was outdated and had run out of space, with even the parking lot not having enough space. Ratcliffe has been looking for a new location since he took over, with at least 100 acres of buildable land, and reports suggest that United are in talks to buy the Knutsford Golf Club, which was put up for sale last year but no agreement has been reached. The club is large enough to be sold, but is also very close to Cheshire, where most of the players live.
