My country's 'Black Star' boys will face Cape Verde in their first group game of the Afcon.
It's been exactly 40 years since Ghana won this tournament, and the runners-up finishes in 2010 and 2015 are the closest they've come in recent years, and I'm proud to be part of that run. As for Cape Verde, this will be their fourth appearance in the tournament since 2013 when they first reached the final week, and their best result for now is the last eight.
There is no doubt that Ghana have a lot of strength in depth and I expect them to go far in this match. However, if the players want to take the lead against Cape Verde, they will need to deliver a better performance than they did in their recent matches, as they recently lost against Comoros and had to settle for a draw against Namibia. Luckily for them, their opponents are also in poor form, as Cape Verde lost 0:2 to Tunisia in their last warm-up match, which was a lackluster performance.
Gudas has been Moyes' most astute acquisition this season, and has been a revelation at Westham. I hope the Ghanaian attacker can follow up his Qatar World Cup performance with another outstanding performance in this year's Afcon and lead Ghana to a final victory in this match.
In the last three Asian Cups, they have finished at the bottom of the group stage, so they will be determined to break their fate in this year's tournament and hope to reach the knockout stage for the first time. However, as this group will be a tough one to call, the 3rd place is the best they can achieve.
