In the third round of the EFL Cup in the early hours of Tuesday morning (9), Manchester United defeated Wigan 2-0 to keep their hopes of winning the Cup alive this season. United's luck continues in the draw for the Cup, as they face League Two side Newport County or non-league side Eastleigh in Round 4. After a successful start to the 2024 campaign, manager Jurgen Tanenhagen has vowed that the new boss will launch a major comeback in the new year!

Although the opponent is only a League One team, Manchester United, who have been in the game for more than a week, have come out in full force, pressing the hosts throughout the game and creating a lot of chances on goal, which would have resulted in a big win if they hadn't been so poor at grasping. United opened the scoring in the 22nd minute, when Dalozzi fired a shot into the corner of the net. The second goal came in the 74th minute, when Bono Fernandes scored a 12-yarder from inside the penalty area, and he himself took the shot, giving United a 2-0 win with 28 shots on goal.

With Manchester United down in the EPL and out of the UEFA Europa League and EFL Cup, the EFL Cup is their only hope of winning the Cup this season, and their luck in the draw is not too good either, as they will face Newport County in the EFL Cup or non-league team Eastleigh in the 4th round. There will be a lot of big matches in the 4th round, including the reigning champions Manchester City visiting Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea's home match against Aston Villa.
