Wu Lei was born in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province, Hui nationality, China's national soccer team, Wu Lei is the record holder of the youngest player to appear in the Chinese professional soccer league.2013-2017 season, Wu Lei five consecutive years dominated the list of the Chinese Super League local top scorer, and in the 2018 season league scored 27 goals, breaking the monopoly of foreign players for ten years to become the best scorer of the season.
In 2003 Wu Lei went to Xu Genbao's Genbao soccer base for a trial, and signed in March of the same year, becoming Xu Genbao's disciple.From 2006 to 2019, he joined Shanghai Harbour, and in 2019, he transferred to La Liga team Espanyol, wearing the No. 24 jersey, and accomplished a number of firsts for a Chinese player: the first Chinese La Liga goal in the March 2, 2019, home game against Valladolid. On March 30, 2019, the first Chinese player to land in the Camp Nou stadium in the Catalan derby away to Barcelona. October 3, 2019, in the second round of the group stage of the UEFA Cup, the Spaniard away against CSKA Moscow, scored the first goal of Chinese men's football players in the European main round.
