In the final of the Copa Libertadores in the early hours of Sunday morning (5th), Brazilian powerhouse Fominense beat Argentinean rivals Boca Jr. 2-1 in extra time to win the tournament for the first time. The two veteran players of the two sides, Marcelo and Kavanagh, went head-to-head, and the result was that Marcelo, the former Real Madrid left-handed player, always had a better chance of winning the Cup, with his career having won the World Cup, UEFA Europa League and the Copa Libertadores, three of the highest tiers of football clubs' tournaments.

Fominis had only reached the final of the Copa Libertadores in 2008, but finished as runners-up. With a chance to win the Cup after 15 years, the players were very energetic and opened the scoring in the 36th minute with a cross from the right side of the road by Genu, which was headed in by 35-year-old veteran Chevenkhanu. Boca Jr. counterattacked and equalized 1-1 in the 72nd minute with a long-distance shot by Luis Ayunguna, while scorer Cavani was replaced in the 78th minute after a mediocre performance.

As for Fominis, they had a chance to shut out their opponents, but backup Diogo Barbosa's shot dipped out of the net, resulting in an extra time tiebreaker.
