According to the Daily Mail, the next EFL Cup will be reformed from the original two rounds of home and away matches to a one-off battle in a neutral venue, in the hope of easing the teams' busy schedules and preventing players from overstretching themselves, which is good news for the big clubs who are fighting on multiple fronts.
The English Premier League (EPL) has been requesting the English Football League (EFL), which hosts the EFL Cup, to change the Top 4 to a one-legged play-off for many years, but due to commercial interests, the EFL did not want to lose the 2 second-legged matches, and so the deal was delayed. However, Daily Mail pointed out that the EFL has agreed with Sky Sports on the terms of the broadcasting contract starting from next year, even if there is no second-round match between the top 4, no money will be deducted from the contract, and the contract is worth 935 million pounds (about HK$8.9 billion). The EFL is willing to follow the public opinion, and is waiting for the final details to be finalized with the Premier League to make it a reality.
