Both sides also got off to a good start this season, with Melbourne Victory beating FC Sydney 2-0 on the road, while Newcastle Jets managed to draw 2-2 with Perth Glory late in the game.
I think Victory did a great job against FC Sydney. They created many chances to start the game with a pair of wingers and locks who played a direct attacking style and made many crosses. The downside is that their players are not too good at taking control of the game, which made them miss the chance to take a 4-goal lead in the first 15 minutes of the match, so they need to be more calm in front of the goal.
With that in mind, I think Konaroly's performance is quite crucial. He opened the scoring for FC Sydney and despite being 36 years old, he still knows how to put the ball in the opposition net. The Newcastle Jets defense has been shaky, so if he can get a shot on goal, I think he'll score.
The Jets traveled to Perth and managed to come back with a point, a pretty good result indeed. My old team stayed focused throughout the game and never gave up. First of all, although the Jets scored first in the early part of the game, they managed to equalize and then tied the game again in the 92nd minute of the game to secure a point.
Stamonte Luopoulos made his first start for the Jets since returning to the club, and immediately scored his second goal for the team late in the game. He has been very impressive in the box with his aerial and ground attacking play, so if the Jets are able to get the ball to the wing players on the counter attack, he will provide a passing and goal scoring option in the middle of the field.
However, both teams are inexperienced and the Jets should have avoided conceding two goals, both of which came from a loss of possession at the back of their defense, and they will be punished if they falter again this time around.
