The Women's World Cup started much later than men's soccer. The Women's World Cup started much later than men's soccer, with the first Women's World Cup taking place in 1991, when the United States won the tournament and was the first country to do so.

First Women's World Cup

Played in China, the inaugural tournament featured 12 teams, including China, Norway, Germany, Brazil, Sweden, Japan, the United States, Canada, New Zealand, Denmark, Italy, and Nigeria.On November 16, 1991, China hosted the first match of the first Women's World Cup at the Tianhe Stadium in Guangzhou, where China's women's soccer team took on the challengers, Norway's women's soccer team, and as the match went on, the final was a close one. As the hosts, China unfortunately failed to enter the quarterfinals and finished fifth, with the United States taking the title and Norway finishing second.

The USA had a great performance in the first round of the tournament as they won two consecutive games in the group stage, defeating China and Sweden. In the semi-finals, the USA defeated Brazil 5-2 in overtime. In the final, the USA showed its power and took the lead in the first minute of the match with a header from Husseins. After that, Miller and Egarr scored two goals in succession, and finally the U.S. team won the first Women's World Cup title by defeating Norway with a score of 2-1.

The United States has been one of the most successful teams in the history of the Women's World Cup. Since 1991, the U.S. has won four Women's World Cups and has consistently led the women's world rankings, although the men's soccer team has had a dismal record at the World Cup compared to the men's soccer team, which has made 11 appearances, with the best result being a third-place finish in the inaugural World Cup, and no subsequent top-four appearances.
