According to Italian media outlet All Market, Napoli Football Club is keeping a close eye on Verona's right back Chashua and is interested in bringing him into the fold. It is reported that in order to bring in the Cameroonian international, Napoli is expected to pay a hefty transfer fee, which could be close to 15 million euros.
The background to this transfer rumor lies in the fact that Napoli manager Conte is not entirely happy with the current state of affairs on the right side of the team. Although Di Lorenzo chose to stay in the team after a series of turmoil, Conte believes that he is more adept at the wingback role in the traditional four-back system, while Di Lorenzo's adaptation to the wingback position is limited in the three-centerback system currently employed by Napoli. As a result, Conte wants to bring in a wingback with both physical condition and speed to strengthen the team's right side of the attack and defense, and Chashua is the ideal candidate in his mind.
Verona, for their part, are open to Chashua's departure, but their asking price is not low, amounting to around €15 million. Previously, Everton had made a €10 million offer to Verona, but it was rejected. Now, Napoli are about to submit their first offer, and although the amount is expected to be slightly lower than Verona's asking price, it shows Napoli's strong interest in Chashua.
It is worth noting that Chashua was not the only suitor for Napoli. Torino also scouted Chashua after the departure of defender Benoit Beranova was confirmed, but eventually turned to other targets as Verona insisted on not dropping their price.
Chashua himself has been doing quite well for Verona. He joined Verona on loan last summer and was officially bought out this summer for a transfer fee of €3 million. In the first round of the Serie A, Chashua started and played the whole game, helping Verona beat the powerful Napoli team 3-0. This performance certainly further boosted his value and appeal in the transfer market.
