Both Perth Glory and Newcastle Jets had mediocre seasons last season, so both sides will be hoping for improvement this season, but I think Perth Glory has a better chance of finishing in the top 6, especially since the club has just been bought out by a consortium, which is quite exciting.
I would love to see my old club, Newcastle Jets, challenge for a playoff spot, but it seems unlikely. Without any investment they are struggling to attract top quality players, however, they have a very passionate fan base and hopefully more young players will have breakthrough performances.
One of the young players to watch out for is 18 year old Archie Gwynn. He may not be a regular, but he is a youngster with a bright future ahead of him. I think he will score a lot of goals this season, and hopefully he can learn more from the main striker, Boccaccia, who will be the centerpiece of the team's front line.
Speaking of strikers, Perth Glory has one of the best strikers in the AFL in Adam Taggart. I used to be teammates with him at Newcastle Jets, and last season he left the Japanese club to join his hometown club, Perth Glory, for the third time.
Although he has slowed down a bit, he is still very good in front of goal. Now that he's more mature, plays smarter, and is a very good shot stopper, I expect him to do well when he returns to the AFL.
