A number of British media outlets are reporting that the official Premier League pre-season warm-up tournament is likely to return to Asia in 2024, meaning that the biennial Premier League Asia Cup will be re-organized, although there is little chance that it will be held in China.
The Daily Mail reports that the English Premier League (EPL) is holding pre-season matches in the United States this summer, which is satisfactory to all parties, but there is little chance that the EPL will hold matches in the United States next summer, and the EPL will probably shift its position to Asia. According to the report, NBC, the US regional broadcaster of the Premier League pre-season, will have to broadcast the Paris Olympics next summer and will not be able to take care of the Premier League pre-season, which will make the Premier League give up the US pre-season and come to Asia instead.
The Premier League has a lot of experience in organizing pre-season matches in Asia. Between 2003 and 2019, the Premier League Asia Cup was held once every two years, with Hong Kong hosting the Cup four times, which was also the most successful, in 2007, 2011, 2013 and 2017, with basically all the matches filled to capacity, China hosting the Cup twice, and Malaysia, Thailand and Singapore hosting the Cup once.
