Dec 14 (IANS) The women's doubles pair of Ashwini Ponnappa and Tanisha Crasto's Unnati Hooda advanced to the quarterfinals of the Orissa Masters Badminton Tournament at the JN Indoor Stadium on Thursday.
In women's doubles, the duo of Ashwini and Tanisha took on Arul Bala Radhakrishnan and Varshini Viswanath Sri and entered the quarterfinals with an easy 21-13 and 21-13 win.
The other women's doubles pair of Rutupana Panda/Svetapana Panda advanced to the quarterfinals with a 21-12, 14-21, 21-19 win over Simran Singhji/Ritika Thakur.
In the women's singles, Unnati advanced to the next round with a 21-18, 21-16 win over Ashmita Chaliha. Former world No. 1 Hope Okuhara defeated Stephanie Vijaya 21-11 and 21-16.
In the mixed doubles, the Indian duo of Tanisha and Dhruv Kapila were up against Indonesia's Amri Shanavi and Winnie Oktawina Kando. The Indian duo was aggressive from the first point and quickly took a 7-3 lead and pocketed the first set 21-16.
In the second game, the Indian duo took a 13-4 lead and put their opponents at a disadvantage to win comfortably 21-12.
In another mixed doubles match, Ashwini and Rohan Kapoor
fell to compatriots Sumis Reddy and Siki Reddy, 14-21, 21-17, 14-21.
Chirag Sen won his men's singles match against Mads Kristoffersen 21-10, 15-21 and 21-17 to advance to the quarterfinals.
