France beat Gibraltar 3-0 in the UEFA Europa League qualifying round, with Kylian McBarbie scoring a 12-yarder. The new generation of goalscorers has already scored 53 goals in the clubs and the national team this season, equaling the record of the late French star Fonteyn, who can become the most scoring French player of a single season by scoring one more goal in the early hours of Tuesday morning (20) in the UEFA Europa League match at home to Greece.

Fonteyn, who scored 53 goals in a season in 1958, including 13 in the World Cup that year, making him the highest scorer in the history of the tournament, died in February this year at the age of 89. Fonteyn's 65-year record as France's top scorer in a single season has finally been equaled by McBarbee. The Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) star has scored 41 goals in 43 matches for PSG this season, plus 12 for France, 8 of which came in the World Cup in December last year, making him the top scorer in that tournament, following in the footsteps of Fonteyn's former footsteps. France have won 5 and lost 1 of their last 6 matches against Greece, so I believe McBarbie has a good chance of breaking Fonteyn's record.
