On July 9, 2014, Brazil held the first semi-final of the World Cup, with Germany beating Brazil 7-1. Kroos was voted Man of the Match after assisting Müller's first goal and scoring twice in the 24th and 26th minutes, setting a record for the fastest second goal in World Cup history (69 seconds). In the final, Germany won the title with a narrow one-nil victory over Argentina, making Kroos the first player born in East Germany to win the Copa Libertadores.On July 11, Kroos was named to FIFA's ten-man list for the Ballon d'Or award, which recognizes the best players of the tournament, and was named to the 2014 World Cup Dream Team. According to the Castrol Index (the official sponsor of the World Cup), Kroos topped FIFA's technical statistics for the best player of the tournament with a score of 9.79, edging out Dutch striker Arjen Robben.
