May 11th, Sampdoria managed to qualify for the promotion playoffs after the Serie B league ended. Team manager Pirlo was interviewed and said that his team will do their best to succeed in the play-offs. In the last round of the match, Sampdoria won 3-1 away to Catanzaro, and finally ranked seventh with 55 points, successfully qualified for the promotion playoffs. On the victory, Pirlo said, "We came here to win and try to overtake Palermo in the table. We won, played well and showed a great performance against a strong team." Sampdoria will face Palermo away in the first round of the promotion play-offs.
Pirlo continued, "The team is in a much better place at the moment, with some of our key players back. In this case it's easier to make line-up choices and allow them to make an impact. The play-offs will be a stand-alone game, no longer taking into account the league season, and we'll give it our all." Speaking about this season's performances, Pirlo said, "During the year we dropped too many points and were awarded many penalties. It's unfortunate that we didn't achieve what we set out to do, but we're still looking to the future. I would like to congratulate my players for their performance in this game. It's a shame that our fans didn't come to the stadium, but they accompanied us in spirit and in their hearts, as they have done all season." Sampdoria will be looking to win the promotion play-offs and hopefully succeed in their promotion to Serie A.
