In the summer of 2015, Ten Hahn became head coach and sporting director of Dutch Eredivisie club Utrecht, leading the team to a 5th place finish in his first season in charge. In the 2016-17 season, Ten Hahn boosted the club's league ranking to 4th place, successfully booking a spot in the UEFA Cup play-offs.
On December 21, 2017, Dutch Eredivisie club Ajax appointed Ten Hahn as their new manager after sacking their head coach Kessel.In 2019, Ten Hahn led Ajax to the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League after 22 years.Ten Hahn won the first title of his career when Ajax defeated Willem II in the Dutch Cup final on May 5, 2019.Ten days later, Ajax defeated Graf Sharp in the Dutch Cup final, 1-4, to become double champions that season. 4 defeat to Graves Sharp to win the Dutch League title that season and become double champions.
On April 18, 2021, Ten Hahn led the club to a record-breaking 2-1 victory over Vitesse in the Dutch Cup final, winning the 20th domestic cup in the club's history. Two weeks later, Ten Hahn extended his contract with Ajax until the end of the 2022-23 season.
On April 21, 2022, English Premier League side Manchester United announced that Templar would become the club's manager at the start of the 2022-23 season. The club won the League Cup in February, ending a five-and-a-half-year title drought, and finished third in the Premier League with 75 points, securing a Champions League ticket for the coming season.
In the 2023-24 season, Manchester United's record and performance plummeted, with a number of key players and new signings missing out due to injuries, poor performance of players in the squad, and poor results in the Premier League and Champions League. In the Premier League, the club has the lowest ranking since 1990, ranking eighth with 60 points, breaking the team's history of the most defeats in the season. However, Manchester United beat arch-rivals Liverpool 4-3 in the last eight of the F.A. Cup, and even beat city rivals Manchester City 2-1 in the final.
Winning the title helped United qualify for the UEFA Europa League the following year.
