Vinbanyama spent his early years playing for the Nanterre 92 youth team.Vinbanyama was called up to the Nanterre 92 adult team for the first time in the 2019-20 season.
In the 2022-23 season, he transferred to Metropolitain 92 of the French Ligue 1, coached by Fanchon Collet, who also serves as the head coach of the French Men's National Basketball Team.In October 2022, he traveled with Metropolitain 92 to the United States to play 2 exhibition games in Las Vegas against the NBA Developmental League Ignition, a team led by another potential rookie, Scooter Henderson, and gained the attention of many NBA insiders.
