Born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Marcelo is a Brazilian professional soccer player who plays as a defender.
At the age of 13 he joined Brazilian club Fluminense, Marcelo played less than two seasons in the Brazilian league, and in January 2007, Spanish powerhouse Real Madrid announced the acquisition of Marcelo for a transfer fee of 7 million euros on a six-year deal.
On September 13, 2017, Marcelo signed a new contract that keeps him at the club until the summer of 2022.
In May 2022, after the Champions League final, Marcelo announced his departure from Real Madrid.
On September 3, 2022, Greek Premier League club Olympiacos officially announced that Marcelo had joined the club.
Then in 2023, Marcelo returned to the first team of his career.
