Speaking on The Rest is Football podcast, former Manchester City star Mickael Richards has given his thoughts on Liverpool striker Mohamed Salah's contract extension. He is confident that Liverpool FC will not let the top player, who was outstanding in the 'Double Red Club', leave the club on a free, and predicts that Salah will extend his contract by two years.
Richards emphasized, "I think Salah will sign a new contract, a two-year extension. There is no reason for Liverpool to lose him for nothing, he is an integral part of the team." He further pointed out that although Salah has reached the age of 32, but his performance in the new season is still eye-catching, especially in the "double red" with Manchester United, he made three goals (1 goal and 2 assists), to help Liverpool to 3-0 win over the opponent, showing a very high level of athleticism.
On the prospect of Salah's contract extension, Richards believes that it will largely depend on the player's own wishes, but he is confident that the Liverpool club will do everything in their power to convince Salah to stay. "The club will definitely try to retain him because you can see Salah is still pivotal in Jürgen Klopp's plans." He added.
However, the current situation is that Salah's contract with Liverpool is about to expire and he is yet to receive the latest offer from the club's top brass. This can not help but let the outside world on the future of Salah produced a lot of speculation. In the post-match interview, Salah also vaguely revealed that this season may be his last year at Liverpool, which undoubtedly casts a shadow over the hearts of fans.
Nonetheless, Richards' comments have certainly added an air of optimism to Salah's contract extension prospects. He has called on Liverpool FC to act quickly and start contract extension talks with Salah to ensure that the decorated player can continue to fight for the Reds and write his own glorious chapter.
