A total of eight teams will compete in the tournament, with the top three qualifying for the U17 Women's World Cup to be held in the Dominican Republic in October. Gary Van Egmond, head coach of the Chinese U17 women's soccer team, said they have one goal in mind and that is to be crowned Asian champions. He said the national team representing China must conform to the image of China as a nation and better represent the Chinese people on the pitch.
Van Egmond also said they would play aggressive soccer, requiring players to move the ball quickly and put constant pressure on opponents. China's U17 women's soccer team was placed in the same group, competing with Japan, Australia and Thailand. Van Egmond analyzed the group's opponents, saying that Australia has a traditional advantage in physicality, but China is familiar with its situation; Japan has always been known for its technical flow, but in recent years has begun to focus on physical confrontation as well; and Thailand is probably the most unpredictable opponent, but they rely more on individual ability to do damage.
