High school years:
Born in Yamaguchi Prefecture, Japan, Isao Kawamura grew up with a passion for basketball and went on to attend Fukuoka Daiichi High School, a basketball powerhouse. During his three years at the school, he led his team to four national conference awards, including two consecutive championships in the Japan National High School Basketball Championships, and was also voted as a top-five player in the tournament, dubbing him "Japan's No. 1 high school student."
Early Pro League Experience:
On January 20, 2020, Isao Kawamura became the first high school player in the history of Japanese professional basketball to join a professional team when he joined the B-League team Mitsukoshi Shin-Phoenix as a specially designated player. During the 2019-2020 season, he appeared in 11 games (seven starts) for the team, averaging 12.6 points, 2.0 rebounds, and 3.1 assists in 22.2 minutes per game .
That same year, Isao Kawamura enrolled in Tokai University, initially wanting to be a physical education teacher after graduation, but in March 2022 he withdrew from Tokai University and signed a new professional contract with the Yokohama Pirates, officially launching his professional playing career .

Named to the 13-man roster announced by the Japan Basketball Association for the fifth window of World Cup qualifying in November 2022, the only post-00 on the roster, and at the time was the league's leader in assists (11 per game), as well as the scoring leader (15.6 points) and steals (2.6 steals) among Japan-based players.
In the 2023 Men's Basketball World Cup, Japan defeated Germany 63-81 in their opening game, but then blew away Finland 98-88 in a game that saw Isao Kawamura make a name for himself on the international stage, and ultimately qualify directly for the Paris Olympics as Asia's No. 1.
