The Nets are owned by a Chinese man, Jonathan Tsai, who officially became the owner of the NBA's Brooklyn Nets on Sept. 19, 2019
On April 13, 2018, Tsai acquired a 49% stake in the Brooklyn Nets for US$1 billion (approximately HK$7.846 billion) with the right to buy a controlling stake in the team for three years, as unanimously agreed by the NBA Board of Governors of the US professional basketball team.
On August 15, 2019, Tsai signed an agreement with Russian billionaire Mikhail Prokhorov to acquire the latter's remaining 51 percent stake in the NBA's Brooklyn Nets for US$1.35 billion (about HK$10.591 billion), becoming the majority owner of the New York-based team.
In January 2019, Tsai led a team from Madison
Plaza Gardens purchased the WNBA's New York Liberty.
