FC Bayern Munich's honorary president, Jurgen Kernes, confirmed Bayern's search for a new head coach at a recent media event. According to him, Bayern decided to part ways with current boss Tuchel in February this year and started looking for a replacement. Hernandez said that Bayern first invited Leverkusen boss Alonso, but was rejected. They then contacted German national team boss Nagelsmann, but were similarly rejected. It was only eventually that Bayern contacted Austrian national team boss Rangnick. Hernandez emphasized that Bayern never had conversations with all three coaches at the same time when choosing their new manager. He said that when having a conversation with a particular coach, it is important to give him a feeling that he is the one Bayern wants.
If the coach agrees to join, that's perfect, otherwise the search continues for the next candidate. According to reports, Rangnick is now the hottest candidate for the Bayern job. Bayern have already made him an offer and are now just waiting for the coach's decision. Hernes expects a definitive answer within a week. Hernandez also said that Bayern's search for a new manager will begin on July 1st. He described the process as "a search that goes on every day". Hernandez denied rumors of previous talks with Zidane. He said that no one has had conversations with Zidane. Speaking about Nagelsmann, Hernes admitted that it was originally thought within Bayern that he would choose to return to Bayern instead of renewing his contract with the DFB. As for Nagelsmann's decision to extend his contract beyond the 2026 World Cup, Hernes said that if Germany performs well at this summer's Euros, then Nagelsmann has made the right decision.
