The game started with the Timberwolves taking the initiative inside and out. However, the Denver Nuggets kept pounding the inside to catch up by taking points. After McDaniels hit two free throws, the Timberwolves suddenly fell into an offensive bottleneck, while the Nuggets blasted a strong 14-2 rally. The Nuggets continued their fireworks in the second quarter, stretching their deficit to double digits. The combined scoring of Jokic and Aaron Gordon gave the Nuggets a 64-49 lead at the end of the first half.

The Nuggets started the second half of the game on the inside and outside, extending their lead to 18 points at one point. However, the Timberwolves' Edwards scored 11 consecutive points to lead his team to bite the bullet. In the final quarter, the two sides battled around a difference of about 10 points. Although the Timberwolves were struggling to catch up, they were unable to reverse the situation in the end. The Nuggets played a solid game and eventually beat the Timberwolves again 115-107 to even the score at 2-2.
