Media reports suggest that South Korea's original candidate for head coach

Marsh

has officially become

Canadian

The team's head coach, while the selection process for the South Korean team is still underway.

The Canadian national team has announced 50-year-old American Jesse Marsch as the team's new manager, signing a contract until July 2026. Marsh, who has coached Red Bull Salzburg, Leipzig and Leeds United, was also one of the candidates for the new South Korean team manager.

The Korean media noted that the result was not a surprise this time around, with the KFA in financial difficulties due to the payment of liquidated damages to former manager Jurgen Klinsmann and the construction of the Cheonan Football Center. Marsh's salary demands may have been more than the KFA could afford, as he earns a whopping £3.5 million a year at Leeds United.

The addition of Marsh puts South Korea back in the driver's seat for managerial selection. There are still about 20 days to go before the World Qualifying 36 matches against Singapore and China in June, but the Korean Football Association (KFA) is still hoping to officially appoint a new manager in May.

We are still in the process of selecting a manager, which may not be easy, but we are working on it," a KFA official said. We have not yet decided whether or not to hold a meeting of the WAR Committee, and even if we do, it is doubtful that the committee will be able to solve the problem. The War Power Strengthening Committee meeting is responsible for selecting and negotiating with the candidates, but it has no right to propose specific conditions such as salary and the length of the contract during the negotiation process."
