Nacho
s father, Chema, said in a media interview that he believes his son deserves to play in the Europa League and questioned the demands made on his son as unfair.
Chema said: "It saddens me that Nacho has to do this to be able to play in the Europa League. Does Nacho really have to do so much to travel with Spain? I'm saying this because we're talking about Nacho now, but other players may have gone through the same thing, and Nacho deserved this opportunity a long time ago."
He continued, "I don't think we're all being fair to Nacho. He's had a great season, but because of two untimely actions, he looks as if he's had a bad season. As a center back, he's only had two red cards in his entire career, but I've heard on talk shows that Nacho is played out, and more recently, I've heard that he's at the peak of his career, but it's really neither. This is Real Madrid, everything is magnified, good or bad."
Speaking about Nacho winning the trophy as Real Madrid's captain, Chema said, "We have dreamed of moments like last Sunday many times. He told me that celebrating the title in the Plaza de Cibeles as captain was more nerve-wracking for him than playing Bayern in the Champions League semi-final. It was Nacho's dream to be Real Madrid's captain and he knew it would be very difficult. What you see is what you get, and Nacho is what you see, a good father, a good son, a good brother, a good friend, and he never runs away from anything."
