, who are expected to have to sell players to raise nearly £100 million, with Dutch winger Somerville most likely to be one of the players to leave.
According to sources with knowledge of Leeds United, the club will be forced to sell some of its current players in order to cope with ongoing operating losses if it fails to succeed in the Premier League. Leeds United will need to recoup almost £100 million to offset operating losses, which previously totaled £106 million according to financial reports and were reduced to £34 million after the sale of Calvin Phillips to Manchester City and Rafinha's move to Barcelona.
While a return to the Premier League would ease the financial pressure, it wouldn't solve the problem entirely, so the club would still need to worry about finances and comply with profit and sustainability requirements. If the push for the Premier League fails, sources say Leeds United may have to sell up to 10 players and will only be able to bring in reinforcements through free transfers and loans after that.
Leeds United's squad of wingers Somerville and Nyong'o, striker Ruud, midfielder Archie Gray and French goalkeeper Meslier are among the best value players. The club will also look to sell former England international Bamford.Somerville, 22, has come under scrutiny from clubs such as Chelsea, Aston Villa, Newcastle and Liverpool in recent months and his transfer fee is expected to be in excess of £30m.
