The first soccer World Cup winner was Uruguay. As the host of the inaugural World Cup in 1930 and the first country to win the World Cup, Uruguay hosted the first Soccer World Cup from July 13th to July 30th, 1930. It was the first soccer World Cup extravaganza to be held within Uruguay's borders and the first time a South American country hosted the World Cup. Although only 13 teams competed at the time, this World Cup laid a strong cornerstone for subsequent World Cups to be hosted.
The 13 teams in the 1930 FIFA World Cup Uruguay came mainly from three continental soccer federations, all of which qualified for the tournament by invitation. The 13 teams were Argentina, Belgium, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, France, Paraguay, Mexico, Peru, Romania, the United States, Uruguay and Yugoslavia. In fact, there are more than a few invited teams, including many European teams, but due to the high cost of traveling to South America and the time it takes, only a small number of European teams have become one of the World Cup teams. According to the rules of the tournament, the 13 teams will be divided into four groups, and the first place of each group will qualify for the quarterfinals. As the first of the four groups, Argentina, Uruguay, the United States and Yugoslavia were all awarded tickets to the semi-finals, with Uruguay and Argentina eventually earning a place in the final, and Uruguay collecting its first ever Copa del Rey with a final result of 4-2.
