According to The Athletic's David Ornstein
England Premier Soccer League
The club will debate at its annual general meeting on June 6 whether the
Abolition of VAR
system for voting. This resolution was formally submitted by the Wolves and requires the approval of 14 of the 20 clubs to pass.
Since the introduction of VAR in 2019, the system has been controversial, with fans, players and clubs criticizing it. There have been a number of controversial penalties this season, the most notable of which was the incorrect disallowance of Liverpool's goal against Tottenham Hotspur.
In a statement, Wolves said that they believe the introduction of the VAR system has not had the desired effect and has had a number of negative impacts on the game. They pointed out that the use of VAR has led to the passion of the game being diminished, the atmosphere on the pitch being affected and the authority of the referee being undermined, as well as increasing stoppage time in matches.
The Premier League is due to end this weekend and the AGM is due to take place next month. Wolves need the support of the other 13 Premier League clubs to pass the proposal and potentially abolish VAR from the English league altogether.
The vote will have a major impact on the future direction of the Premier League and more information on this will be announced.
