United fans have now clearly named Solskjaer's only option for the 2021/22 season, and it is necessary for him to actually win trophies if he wants to be recognized to remain in charge.

For more than two years in charge of United, Solskjaer has been citing youth DNA, attacking soccer and performances that have moved forward as his achievements in charge. But after losing the UEFA Cup final in Gdansk, Red Devils fans began to put more pressure on Solskjaer to lead the team to the title next season.

After losing in the UEFA Cup final, Manchester United have now failed to win any trophies for the fourth consecutive year. In an inquiry poll conducted by the UK's Daily Mirror, more than 20,000 United fans rated the performance of the just-concluded 2020/21 season, with nearly half believing the season was not a success.

Manchester United won second place in the Premier League, runner-up in the UEFA Cup and reached the semi-finals of the League Cup this season, but 49% of fans who took part in the query felt that the season was not considered a success; only 43% thought the season was a success, while the other 7% held a wait-and-see sentiment.

In fact, the majority of fans thought that Solskjaer would need to win the Premier League title next season if he was to stay on as United manager, with 54% thinking that this was the only way for him to keep his job at the club. Another 37% thought that Solskjaer didn't need to win the Premier League to stay in the job, while 8% didn't make a clear statement.

Manchester United fans don't just want the title, they want some big name new signings to assist in winning it. Harry Kane was the most wanted player by Red Devils fans with 30% of the vote, with Erin Harland close behind with 20%, followed by Sancho (18%), Grealish (14%) and Pau Torres (10%).

But the Glazers fear it will be difficult to sign Kane or perhaps Harland for United, with Sancho the most likely star to join this summer.

Sky Sports UK thought the UEFA Cup final exemplified Solskjaer's weaknesses, stacking the field with all his big-name attackers in the hope that they would work, but once they failed, the United boss lacked a strategy to adapt.

Solskjaer said after the match: Our starting formation has many scorers, and match-winning characters, and hopefully this will give us an advantage. But statistics show that center forward Cavani had fewer touches than any other non-goalkeeper on the pitch in the first half, and didn't get a shot on goal.
