Regular season:
Divisions: The USL is divided into two divisions, the East and West, each with 13 or 14 teams (varies with the number of teams in the league).
Schedule: Each team will play 34 regular season games. Of these, a total of 24 games will be played against the 12 teams in the same division in a two-legged home-and-home series, and a total of 10 games will be played against 10 of the 13 teams in the other division. Due to the number of teams and scheduling, there are situations where teams do not meet each other during the regular season.
Points Rule: Regular season games are worth 3 points for a win, 1 point each for a tie, and 0 points for a loss. At the end of the regular season, teams are ranked according to their point totals to determine playoff eligibility and various regular season awards.
Playoffs:

Format of play: The format of the playoffs has undergone a number of changes.
