Officials announced today that each team in this year's CONCACAF Champions League will be allowed to register a maximum of 26 players for the tournament, but the maximum number of members on the bench on match days will remain at 23, including players from the delegation and members of the coaching staff. The announcement was made official following adjustments to the CONCACAF 2024 regulations made by the South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL) at its May 16 meeting in Bangkok, Thailand.
The new rules allow each team to send a maximum of 26 players to the tournament, with a maximum total delegation of 50, the costs of which will be borne by the tournament organizers. However, if it is decided to register more than 23 players, the number of other officials registered must be automatically reduced to keep the total delegation size at 50. For example, if one chooses to register 26 players, the number of officials registered in the list can only be 24.
The maximum number of delegation members on the bench on match days shall not exceed 23, including delegation players and coaches. If one chooses to bring 26 players (11 on the field of play and 15 on the bench), the maximum number of remaining officials is limited to 8. In addition, the maximum number of substitutes on the bench for each match will be 15 and the minimum number will be 7.
In addition, the regulations retain the possibility of registering up to 15 additional officials, provided that the costs associated with those additional officials are borne by the delegation itself, leaving the delegation with a maximum of 65 accredited personnel.
The 2024 Copa America will be held in the United States from June 20 to July 14 and will feature 16 teams. The opening match will see defending champions Argentina take on Canada, who are advancing to their first CONCACAF final round, on June 20, while the CONCACAF final is scheduled for July 14 at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami.
