On June 17, UEFA released news about the Champions League and UEFA Cup after a video conference, the quarter-finals of the Champions League this season will be a single-elimination system, the original remaining four 1/8 finals will be played on August 7-8, and all the quarter-finals will be concentrated in the Stadium of Light and the Alvarad Stadium in Lisbon, Portugal.

The remaining four matches are Manchester City vs Real Madrid, Bayern vs Chelsea, Juve vs Lyon and Barcelona vs Napoli, with the venues for the second leg of the 1/8 finals to be decided in July depending on the circumstances, while Paris Saint-Germain, Atalanta, Atletico Madrid and Red Bull Leipzig have already progressed to the last eight.

Additionally increasing the number of substitutions from three to five allows clubs to re-register three new players on the A-list, provided they are registered and eligible with the club by the deadline (February 3, 2020 for the Men's Champions League and Men's UEFA Europa League, and March 18, 2020 for the Women's UEFA Champions League), although the A-list will still only be able to register a maximum of 25 players and clubs cannot register new transfers.

The draw for the Champions League quarter-finals as well as the semi-finals will take place on July 10 in Sion, Switzerland, with the exact fixtures and timetable for the matches coming out together at that time.
