: The surcharge is linked to Arsenal qualifying for the Champions League and Rice's appearances. For every Champions League qualification Arsenal gained, West Ham would receive £1 million. Rice's transfer fee thus reached £101 million, overtaking Grealish as the most expensive English player. The clause, which covers the length of Rice's five-year contract and does not include an extra year's extension option, could bring the total transfer price to £105m.
