The Football Association (FA) announced today that former Ulsan Hyundai boss Kim Do-hoon has been appointed as the national team's
interim head coach
, taking the team to two 36-team tournaments in June.
Second interim coaching system
The South Korean national team has been under an interim coaching system for the second time this year. Hwang Sun-hong had taken over the coaching reins on an interim basis in March after the sacking of Jurgen Klinsmann in February, leading the team to a win and a draw in their two Round of 36 matches.
New coaching search delayed
: The Korean Football Association (KFA) had originally planned to announce a new coach in May, but decided to go with an interim coach again as negotiations are still ongoing, appointing Kim Do-hoon as interim head coach for the June tournament.
early career coaching
: Kim Do-hoon started coaching at Seongnam Ilhwa in 2005, and then coached Incheon United and Ulsan Hyundai.
AFC Champions League
: In 2020, Kim Do-hoon led Ulsan Hyundai to the AFC Champions League title.
Overseas teaching
: In 2021, he coached the Singapore Lion City Mariners.
Jung Hae-sung, chairman of the KFA's strengthening committee, said Kim Do-hoon's knowledge of Korean soccer and his previous experience coaching in the Singapore League were the main reasons for his appointment as interim head coach.
