The coaching of the national team.

Mauricio Pochettino left Chelsea after less than a year in charge. Both Manchester United and Bayern are currently keeping an eye on the Argentine coach. Pochettino is also understood to want to prove that the problem is with Chelsea and not himself, and will weigh up all his options before making a final decision.

Southgate made it clear earlier that he would not talk about his future before the Euros. His contract with the FA will run until the end of this year and the FA wants him to continue leading England to the 2026 World Cup. However, if Southgate decides to leave, Mauricio Pochettino could be the new choice.

Pochettino had hinted in an interview that he was interested in coaching the England national team, stating, "I have a good relationship with England, you never know what will happen, I am open to anything." His coaching experience in the Premier League has given him a great understanding of English players, having trained a number of England internationals.

Pochettino's relationship with Trippier and Walker could become problematic as they all had a spell at Tottenham. However, both players are nearing the end of their England national team careers and this aspect will be less troubling if the FA end up choosing Pochettino.

Pochettino has developed a number of England internationals during his time at Southampton and Tottenham, including Luke Shaw, Lallana, Walker, Trippier, Dyer, Alli and Kane. He also developed Palmer to become an England international this season.
