Oaktree Capital
After taking over Inter Milan (Inter), concerns have been raised about possible future turmoil in the Blue and Black. In an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport, Inter legend Bergomi gave his views on the Oak Capital's plans, the current state of the team and suggestions for this summer's transfer window.
Bergomi said, "As I understand it, it is in the interest of the club's owners to keep Inter competitive. I don't think the fans will agree with the change in strategy of Oak Capital, which is that most of the new recruits are young players. Marotta decided to sign some hopefuls and also waived some players over 30. That's how he operates, and today this has brought good results for the team and achieved financial balance. We don't feel that Oak Capital should go for a change of strategy now."
Bergomi highlighted the importance of some of the core players: "There are some players who can't be replaced, like Lautaro. Lautaro didn't score for two and a half months, but nobody complained about it because he always fights, helps his teammates and remains a benchmark in the team. A year ago, he would have been very frustrated. Today, he feels like the team captain and leader. Barella and Çalhanoglu are also important."
He also mentioned, "In terms of importance, I rank Marcus Thuram at #4. Although he has an 85 million release clause to reassure me, he is also very important in the dressing room. If it were me, I'd think twice about leaving Inter because he's found the right tactical system at this team. If joining a more affluent club, they might put him in a different position."
Bergomi gave his advice, "If it were up to me, I would sign a central defender for Inter, a player with different characteristics than the central defenders in today's squad, a player who is fast and able to participate in the team's high defense. Acerbi and De Vrij are valuable assets for the team, but I would also think about the future."
He added: "However, with the retention of the team's current squad and the signings of Zielinski and Taremi, this is already a very good thing for Inter's future."
Bergomi's views reflect his understanding of Inter's current situation and the
future development
He is a well-considered player. He believes that maintaining the current strategy, keeping the core of the squad stable and bringing in reinforcements in key positions are important factors to ensure Inter continue to be competitive.
