Wie's semifinal defeat to Naomi Osaka at the Australian Open and her tearful post-match press conference has sparked speculation about her future. After all, since her comeback from giving birth to a daughter, Wie has stopped in the final four times in the Grand Slam tournament, and recently went out in the quarterfinal stage one after another. However, Wie's coach Patrick Mouratoglou said in a recent interview that Serena Williams will not retire until she wins her 24th individual Grand Slam women's singles title.

Said Moratoglu: "I think Serena won at least one more Grand Slam title before she stopped, she came back to the game to win more, she didn't give up and I don't think she's planning on retiring at any particular point."

"Serena has dedicated her life to tennis since she was a child. The day she retires, she'll feel like she's putting an end to 40 years of her life, so it's going to be very sensitive and emotional; which I completely understand."

"At her age, having achieved everything in her career, she had children and a family for the first time. On her return to tennis, both mentally and physically, she spent an extraordinary amount of time recovering, and that level of effort was incredible."

"If she didn't think she could win a major, she wouldn't even start. That's what makes Serena really special. She holds herself to a very high standard and whatever she does, she finds a way to match it."
