The win in the final managed to break the title drought since 2001. The win is the second time that Servite have won the Swiss Cup since 2001, while they last won the Swiss Super League in 1999.
Servette has a long and illustrious history in Swiss football. Among the Swiss footballers are Grasshopper Club Zürich, FC Basel, BSC Young Boys and Servette. Servette have won the Swiss top flight 17 times in their history, which is third in terms of numbers behind Grasshopper and Basel. However, most of Servite's league titles were won before the 1960s.
Servite's youth system has produced many outstanding players, most notably former Arsenal player Philippe Senderos. In addition, Servite has attracted a number of world-class players, including:
