The proposed elimination of VAR (Video Assistant Referee) in the
England Premier Soccer League
The teams' votes failed to garner enough support for the proposal, and it was rejected.
According to the relevant rules of the Premier League, such proposals need to be supported by at least 14 out of 20 clubs in order to pass. However, in this vote, Wolves' proposal failed to meet this requirement and was ultimately rejected.
VAR has been controversial since its introduction to the Premier League. Although its original intention was to reduce refereeing misjudgments, in actual application, VAR penalties have sparked a lot of controversy and criticism. Wolverhampton Wanderers' proposal to scrap VAR is clearly a desire to return to the traditional refereeing model. However, most Premier League clubs still seem to believe that VAR has an important role to play in improving the fairness of the game.
Despite the rejection of this proposal, discussions on VAR and suggestions for improvement are expected to continue in the Premier League with a view to finding a more refined solution in the future.
