As well as manager Jurgen Klopp, who often uses Liverpool as an example to show his players how to play top level soccer. Bassett said, "He introduced me to a lot of things and gave me a better understanding of soccer. I saw some of the detailed things he did for the team and learned what it takes to play at the top level."
Bassett recalled how Slaughter would often show clips of Liverpool games in training and emphasized that these were the things that had to be learned if one wanted to play at the top level. "Liverpool were a team he mentioned a lot and he always emphasized that if you want to play at the top level then that's what you have to do. Now that he has been given the opportunity to coach Liverpool, I think the feeling must be very special for him."
Bassett said he was not surprised that Sloter had been given the chance to coach Liverpool, but it was still interesting to see that dream come true. "Before, he would show us what Salah and Diaz were doing on defensive counter-attacks and tell us that if we want to play at a top club then those are the things we need to go for."
He also mentioned Feyenoord's top wingers such as Reiss Nelson and Luis Sinistra, who are now playing in the Premier League. "Liverpool should be the team Sloter most aspires to go and coach, and now he has finally gotten his wish."
