Team reporter James L. Edwards III reports that the Detroit Pistons are fully evaluating their
coaching staff
That includes the head coach.
Monty
-Williams. The Pistons hired Monty last summer on a record-setting contract, giving him a six-year, $78.5 million deal with team options for years seven and eight that could total up to $100 million.
In addition, Monty has three years left on his contract with the Suns, which is worth over $20 million dollars. Recently, the Pistons fired general manager Troy Weaver and hired a new president, Landon. Pistons owner Tom Gores has made it clear that he is willing to pay the remaining $60 million of Monty's salary if he is deemed unfit for the direction of the team.
This series of moves suggests that the Pistons are in the midst of a deep reorganization in an effort to regroup and get better. The evaluation and potential changes to the coaching staff could be an important step in the rebuilding process.
