According to the Times.
Manchester City
The move to counter sue the Premier League has caused a huge backlash within the Premier League, with clubs expressing concern over the development, suggesting that the competitiveness of the league could be dealt a serious blow if City are successful.
Many clubs are concerned that if Manchester City are successful, clubs with more sponsorship resources will gain a huge advantage, which in turn will undermine fair competition in the league. Around 10 to 12 clubs have already written letters or made statements in support of the Premier League defending the existing rules.
The Times notes that Manchester City's actions not only affect the Premier League, but also have implications for the Premier League's sponsorship program with the English Football League (EFL). If the Premier League's financial spending limit rules are ruled illegal, then some clubs may refuse to pay the relevant funds. Certain senior Premier League sources say, "If we are to keep up with Manchester City then we may have to keep the funds."
In addition, The Times revealed more details of the Premier League civil war:
Some clubs could claim more than £1 billion from Manchester City if the Premier League's 115 allegations of breaches against the club are upheld in whole or in part. Many clubs are already seeking legal advice in order to seek compensation for their team's failure to finish above City in the rankings. Some teams want the case relating to the 115 allegations to be heard by an independent tribunal, not only to impose a heavy fine on City, but also to apply the rules that allow the league to expel clubs from the competition. If City are deemed to have breached the rules, other clubs would still want the league to impose appropriate penalties, despite not really seeking to strip City of past titles.
Teams are furious that Manchester City have launched allegations against the Premier League, not least because in November 2021 City had approved changes to the rules on related party transactions which they now claim are illegal and anti-competitive. This behavior is seen as double standards by other clubs, further increasing tensions.
