. In his nearly 30 years in charge, the Scot has led the club through a number of highly successful periods, including 13 Premier League titles and two Champions League triumphs. When asked about the best 11-man squad during his time in charge of United, Ferguson admitted that a number of legendary names immediately came to mind.
Ferguson said, "It's hard to pick, you look at the strikers I've got, McClair, Hughes, Cole, Cantona, Fanny, Saha, Solskjaer, Yorke, Sheringham, and then the more recent players, Rooney, Van Persie, Hernandez, so how does that go? Maybe Cantona paired with someone else? The midfield is probably a bit easier because we have Keane, Robson and Scholes, who are all brilliant players, and Beckham, Crowe and Giggs."
Ferguson insisted that Denis Erwin is undisputed at wing-back: "To be honest, I'd say Denis Erwin is definitely going to be in the team and I'd give him an 8 out of 10. In a game at Highbury, he misplaced a pass in the last minute and Bergkamp came on to score. You must have been disappointed with that return pass? Ferguson: "Well, one mistake in ten years is not bad. He's an unbelievable player."
After joining Manchester United from Oldham in June 1990, Ervine became one of the most decorated players in Irish soccer history, winning 18 trophies in 12 seasons at the club.
