According to an update provided by French media outlet L'Equipe, as the
Brest (name)
's home stadium, Stade Francis Lebleu, the tube structure of the stands could not meet UEFA's requirements for the
European crown
The requirements of the tournament will see them set up their home for Champions League matches at Gambon's Rudolph Road stadium next season.
A few weeks ago, Denis Le Saint, the president of the Brest club, said in an interview that they had at one point considered Rennes for their home ground. He said, "There are two clubs that might take us in, Gambon and Rennes. We made contact with them to see if we could reach an agreement. Both venues have their own advantages. Gambon is closer to us (about an hour and 15 minutes' drive), while Rennes is a bigger stadium and has more experience of hosting European matches. The easiest way to do it would probably be to just go for Rennes. The stadium is further away from us though, and for the Champions League, which is played in the middle of the week, the issue of distance is very important."
L'Equipe reports that Brest have now informed UEFA that they will be choosing the Gambon home ground. UEFA will be sending experts to the Rudolph Road stadium next week for a visit, which may require minor engineering work. The stadium was previously remodeled to UEFA standards in 2014, replacing 15,663 seats and adding lighting, but some adjustments are still needed to meet the latest UEFA requirements. An assessment will be provided by UEFA at that time, but as things stand, Brest will have little problem borrowing Gambon's home for the Champions League.
